Instructions

Before installing WinLINE, identify what sort of cable you will use to physically connect the output device to the computer. What kind of connector is available on the output device? What kind of physical port is available on the computer? If there is a physical port available on the computer, what is its name?

Click the appropriate button above to download the software for your version of Windows and save it to your computer. Follow the instructions below for the type of installation you require:


A. Install WinLINE to print to a local printer connected by a cable

  1. Make sure your output device is not connected to any cable before proceeding to install WinLINE.
  2. If you are using a USB to parallel conversion cable, or a USB to serial conversion cable, plug one end in to a USB port on your computer before you install WinLINE. Make sure the other end is not connected to the machine at the time. Windows should recognize the cable so you can connect the printer driver to it in a later step.
  3. Run the file you downloaded by double-clicking its icon from your desktop or from Windows Explorer.
  4. After you agree to the license agreement, connect your output device to the computer and click Next. If your machine is recognized as a Plug and Play device, the Windows Add Printer Wizard will start. When you are prompted by the Add Printer Wizard to go online, answer [x]Not This Time and [x]Install Automatically, then click Next and complete the Add New Printer Wizard.

    If your device was not recognized by Plug and Play and you did not see the Add Printer Wizard, select the Manufacturer and Model of your output device, and select the Port your output device is connected to.

    If you are using a USB to parallel or serial conversion cable, select the USB Virtual Printer Port that corresponds to your cable and port. If you see more than one, choose the one with the highest number. If it doesn't work, try a lower number subsequently.

    If you cannot see any suitable port or you are unsure which port to select, connect the driver to the port called FILE: for now. Change the port setting after installation from your Windows Printers Folder, by right-clicking on the icon for your output device and selecting Properties > Ports.

    Click Next, then click Next again to accept the Printer Name.

  5. Click Finish to complete the installation.
  6. Configure WinLINE's settings to match your physical machine and media. To access WinLINE's settings, in your Windows Printers Folder, right-click on the icon for your output device and select "Printing Preferences".
  7. Print with WinLINE from any standard Windows program/s. Print a variety of things that are representative of what you will want to print in the future. Apart from the advertizing message, the output you see from WinLINE in evaluation mode is complete and equivalent to what the fully licensed product produces.
  8. If anything isn't right or isn't clear, please ask a question
  9. Buy WinLINE license(s) and activate the software to eliminate the advertizing message on the output.

B. Install WinLINE to print to a TCP/IP network printer

  1. Run the file you downloaded by double-clicking its icon from your desktop or from Windows Explorer.
  2. After you agree to the license agreement, you will be prompted to connect your device to the computer. Click Next.
  3. Select the Manufacturer and Model of your output device, and select the network port for your printer if it is listed.
  4. If your printer is connected to a TCP/IP port that is not already listed by Windows, click Add Port, Select Standard TCP/IP Port, Click New Port and complete the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard.
  5. If you cannot select or configure a port or you are unsure which port to select, connect the driver to the port called FILE: for now. Change the port setting after installation from your Windows Printers Folder, by right-clicking on the icon for your output device and selecting Properties > Ports.
  6. Configure WinLINE's settings to match your physical machine and media. To access WinLINE's settings, in your Windows Printers Folder, right-click on the icon for your output device and select "Printing Preferences".
  7. Try printing a Windows Test Page. In your Printers Folder, right-click on the icon for your output device and select (Printer) Properties. On the General tab, click Print Test Page. You should see a test page printout.
  8. Print with WinLINE from any standard Windows program/s. Print a variety of things that are representative of what you will want to print in the future. Apart from the advertizing message, the output you see from WinLINE in evaluation mode is complete and equivalent to what the fully licensed product produces.
  9. If anything isn't right or isn't clear, please ask a question.
  10. Buy WinLINE license(s) and activate the software to eliminate the advertizing message on the output.

C. Install WinLINE as a shared network printer on a host PC and print to the shared printer with WinLINE from another PC


Overview

  1. Install WinLINE on the PC that hosts the output device and Share it. Make a note of the shared network name that Windows uses for the plotter. Later, you will want to refer to it in the form \\ServerName\ShareName
  2. Install WinLINE on each computer that will print to the plotter. Configure the driver to print to the network port \\ServerName\ShareName

Note: You will need a license for each computer that will print.

You won't require a license key for the server that hosts the output device, unless you are going to print directly from it.


Detailed Instructions


Part I. Install the software on the host PC

  1. Make sure your output device is not connected to any cable before proceeding to install WinLINE.
  2. If you are using a USB to parallel conversion cable, or a USB to serial conversion cable, plug one end in to a USB port on your computer before you install WinLINE.   6. Next, share the printer. In your Windows Printers Folder, right-click on the icon for your device and select Sharing... If you do not see an option for Sharing, you may have to enable Windows Printer Sharing first.
  7. In the Sharing tab, select Share this printer, and enter a Share name. Make a note of the name. You will use it later when you connect to this printer from other computers, in the form \\ServerName\ShareName.
  8. (Vista) Check Render print jobs on client computers.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Next, check that you can see the shared printer from the computer that will do the printing. On the computer that will do the printing, browse My Network Places. Do you see the server computer, and the shared WinLINE printer? If so, you are ready to proceed to Part II. If not, restart Windows on both machines.

Part II. Install WinLINE on each computer that will print across the network to the device.

  1. Download the WinLINE install program from the top of this page and run it on the computer that will print across the network.
  2. After you agree to the license agreement, you will be prompted to connect your device to the computer. Click Next.
  3. Select the Manufacturer and Model of your output device, and select the network port for your printer if it is listed. Look for a port name in this format:

    \\ServerName\ShareName

    that matches your server and the output device.

    If you do not see the appropriate network port, connect the driver to FILE: and change it after installation as follows:

    In your Windows Printers Folder, right-click on the icon for the plotter and select Properties > Ports. If you see the network port in the list, select it. Otherwise, click Add Port..., select Local Port, click the New Port... button and enter the network name for the output device in the form \\ServerName\ShareName.
  4. Configure WinLINE's settings to match your physical machine and media. To access WinLINE's settings, in your Windows Printers Folder, right-click on the icon for your output device and select "Printing Preferences".
  5. Print with WinLINE from any standard Windows program/s. Print a variety of things that are representative of what you will want to print in the future.
